Finding your dream home is one thing, but securing a home loan can be altogether more complicated. To help to simplify the process we’ve pulled together four simple steps that could help make your home loan dreams a reality.

Talking to an expert

1. Talking to an expert

The first thing you should do is talk to an expert, whether that’s us or another lender. We’ll take the time to understand your individual situation, wants and needs. Then we’ll discuss your personal finances - your income, expenses, assets and liabilities, and credit history. This’ll let us learn more about your current financial position, so we can try and find a suitable home loan for your situation.
Checking the important paperwork

2. Checking the important paperwork

Following from our initial ‘chat,’ we’ll review and assess the documentation you’ve provided us. Assuming everything is in order, we’ll issue you with an approval in principal letter and instruct an independent valuer to inspect your property to validate the estimated purchase price. If we have any questions around your financial position at this stage, we’ll advise any further information we require – for example extra payslips, or employment history – and any alternative loan options that may suit your individual situation.
Sealing the deal

3. Sealing the deal

Once all the documents have been checked, the valuation confirmed and the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed you’ll be issued with a formal approval. We’ll send you a copy of the loan agreement, which details the term and conditions of the loan.
Settling the loan

4. Settling the loan

All that’s left is for you to sign and settle. You’ll need to review and sign your loan documents, while we prepare and confirm your settlement date. The settlement day represents the beginning of your new adventure in your new home and when you officially start your home loan journey.

Want to find out where you stand?

We've got the online tools and calculators to help get your home loan journey underway. Work out how much you may be able to borrow and even quickly find out what indicative interest rate you might be eligible for.

Information provided is factual information only and is not intended to imply any recommendation about any financial product(s) or constitute tax advice. If you require financial or tax advice you should consult a licensed financial or tax adviser.

All applications for credit are subject to credit assessment, eligibility criteria and lending limits. Terms, conditions, fees and charges apply.

The results of the borrowing power calculator are based on information you have provided and is to be used as a guide only. The output of the calculator is subject to the assumptions provided in the calculator (see 'about this calculator') and are subject to change. It does not constitute a quote, pre-qualification, approval for credit or an offer for credit and you should not enter commitments based on it. The interest rates do not reflect true interest rates and the formula used for the purpose of calculating estimated borrowing power is based on the assumption that interest rates remain constant for the chosen loan term. Your borrowing power amount will be different if a full application is submitted and we complete responsible lending assessment. The results in the calculator do not take into account loan setup or establishment fees nor government, statutory or lenders fees, which may be applicable from time to time.
